From 26 to 27 November 2019, the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes will hold its annual meeting in Paris, France. The Global Forum is the leading multilateral body mandated to ensure that jurisdictions around the world adhere to and effectively implement both the standard of transparency and exchange of information on request and the standard of automatic exchange of financial account information. This objective is achieved through a robust monitoring and peer review process. The Global Forum also runs an extensive technical assistance program to provide support to its members in implementing the standards and helping tax authorities to make the best use of cross-border information sharing channels.
The 2019 plenary meeting will be the 10th Anniversary Meeting of the Global Forum. It will provide an opportunity to take stock of the progress made (Link). The first day, with a focus on the issues of the utility, relevance and global impact of tax transparency, will be broadcast live on OECD WebTV, with a replay available after the event (Link). In the members-only sitting on the second day, the Global Forum will meet at the technical level and discuss several documents such as the peer reviews of automatic exchanges of information.
