No majority in the Bundesrat for the relief bonus and tax consultancy reform

The amendment to the Tax Consultancy Act passed by the Bundestag failed to secure a majority in the Bundesrat on 8 May 2026.

This also means that the relief bonus of €1,000 for employees contained in the amendment has been put on hold for the time being. It had been included in the bill amending the Tax Consultancy Act by the German Bundestag (see our blog post ).

In order to implement the plan, the Federal Government and the Bundestag can now refer the matter to the Mediation Committee. Its role is to find a compromise in the event of differences between the Bundestag and the Bundesrat.
